Install From Packages

Install the signed 0.2.0 APT package on Ubuntu 24.04 and manage it with systemd.

1. Add The Signed APT Repository

Packages support Ubuntu 24.04 (noble), AMD64 and ARM64, with Linux 6.1+ and usable io_uring. The current Debian version is 0.2.0-1. Unversioned apt install lavik selects 0.2.0; 0.1.0 and beta.1 remain available for version-pinned installs. The repository URL and signing key are unchanged.

Linux · bash
# Ubuntu 24.04 (noble), AMD64 or ARM64
(
set -eu
. /etc/os-release
[ "$ID" = ubuntu ] && [ "$VERSION_ID" = 24.04 ] || { echo "Ubuntu 24.04 required"; exit 1; }
case "$(dpkg --print-architecture)" in amd64|arm64) ;; *) echo "Unsupported architecture"; exit 1 ;; esac
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y ca-certificates curl
sudo install -d -m 0755 /etc/apt/keyrings
key_file=$(mktemp)
trap 'rm -f "$key_file"' EXIT
curl --fail --location https://lavik.dev/apt/lavik-archive-keyring.asc \
  -o "$key_file"
sudo install -m 0644 "$key_file" /etc/apt/keyrings/lavik.asc
cat <<EOF_SOURCE | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/lavik.sources

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y 'lavik=0.2.0-1'
lavik --version

2. Start The Service

Linux · bash
sudo systemctl enable --now lavik
sudo systemctl status lavik --no-pager
sudo apt-get install -y redis-tools
redis-cli -h 127.0.0.1 -p 6379 PING
redis-cli -h 127.0.0.1 -p 6379 SET hello lavik
redis-cli -h 127.0.0.1 -p 6379 GET hello

Fresh installation leaves the service stopped. It runs as the lavik system user, binds to 127.0.0.1:6379, and allocates its data file only when absent. Data lives under /var/lib/lavik; logs live under /var/log/lavik. Set service options in /etc/default/lavik, then restart the service.

Choose Minimal Or Standard

lavik is Minimal; lavik-standard adds compiled SPDK/DPDK support. Both install the same executable names and conflict, so select one variant. Standard still defaults to kernel TCP/io_uring. The APT packages contain lavik, lavik-meta and lavik-ctl; download a release archive for Lavik Admin and its Node.js runtime.

Linux · bash
# Alternative to Minimal; do not install both variants together.
sudo apt-get install 'lavik-standard=0.2.0-1'
lavik --version

Manage And Upgrade

Linux · bash
# For an existing configured APT installation; back up data first.
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install --only-upgrade 'lavik=0.2.0-1'
# Use lavik-standard=0.2.0-1 instead if that is your installed variant.
lavik --version
Linux · bash
sudo journalctl -u lavik -n 50 --no-pager
sudo systemctl restart lavik
redis-cli -h 127.0.0.1 -p 6379 GET hello
# Stop the server without removing its package or data.
sudo systemctl stop lavik

Before upgrading, back up your data and review the 0.2.0 release notes. New data/value-key CRC generation is off by default; existing CRCs are still verified. Older readers cannot consume the new no-CRC flags, so retain a pre-upgrade backup for rollback. A package upgrade does not certify a beta cluster migration.
